Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has launched the GR Supra GT Cup Asia – Philippines, the first e-motorsports program, which will start in July 2020. This tourney wants to find the top e-sports racers in the country under the organization of Toyota’s global Gazoo Racing brand, who will represent the Philippines in the Asian Regional Round in the latter part of 2020.

This event is an expansion of TMP’s motorsport activities, along with the long-running Vios Racing Festival (VRF). This year’s One-Make-Race program announced its postponement due to health and safety risks brought upon by ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In keeping the waku-doki spirit alive from the comfort of every Toyota lover’s home, TMP decided to take the race online with its flagship sports car, the GR Supra.

Gamers aged 18 and above will race against other participants in two classes, promotional and sporting, using Toyota’s iconic flagship sports car in the Gran Turismo SPORT game on Playstation.

GR Supra GT Cup Asia Classes
· Promotional Class – for novice drivers with no professional e-sports background
· Sporting Class – for intermediate and professional e-racers

Players may register online via toyota.com.ph/gtcup and check the complete mechanics. Qualifying rounds will start this month, followed by the grand finals in August, which will coincide with the regional competition in the final quarter of the year.

To accommodate more drivers, TMP also has classes for Media & Celebrity partners and Junior participants below 18 years old. Both will be created based on a different selection process and registration, and underage winners cannot qualify for the regional round.

“Because of the current situation, we have decided to postpone VRF this year for safety reasons. The good news is, our waku-doki spirit lives on. This 2020, we are launching the GR Supra GT Cup Asia – PHILIPPINES. “ says TMP President Mr. Atsuhiro Okamoto “This e-motorsports program will not only continue Toyota’s racing legacy but will also discover the Philippines’ top e-Sports talents. We are very excited to find them so they can represent the country in our international races.”

Toyota showed a sneak peek during the online press conference with Okamoto battling VRF racers on the digital track, exhibiting the exciting e-racing experience TMP prepared for all contestants. TMP also extended its support to front liners during the launch event, announcing that they will also use GR Supra GT Cup to acquire donations for essential workers in the country’s fight against COVID-19.

“Our motorsports programs have always been linked with our responsible driving and road safety advocacy. The GR Supra GT Cup is no different.” Announced TMP Executive Vice President Mr. Kei Mizuguchi “We are encouraging our racers and live stream viewers to donate any amount to be used to provide food packs for military, police and medical front liners deployed to man our highways and checkpoints. TMP will match the donation from racers and viewers to reach out to more front liners! It’s our simple way of helping and thanking them for keeping us safe on the road during these challenging times.”
